I found this article by New York Times authors that sparked my attention and a connection to my project. The authors question today’s education system in their NY times article regarding students engagement in school and where it presents itself the most. The purpose of this article was not only to highlight the importance of extra curriculars, but to prove that they might be the cause of most students intellectual growth. Also, the authors wanted to accentuate the growing need for engagement through extra curriculars to transfer to classroom settings. The authors present their findings after they observed several classroom settings versus after school, more student lead, extra curriculars such as debate club or drama. The difference was the student leadership and interest that results in growth, curiosity, and creativity which is seen to lack in today’s education system. It was mentioned how the engagement with learning was heightened as soon as the students gained the interest as they did in these out of classroom settings, which would be an extremely helpful way to gain a stronger grasp of education. I agree with the authors, in the sense that extra cirricular environment and strategies should be brought more into regular classroom curriculum. Check out the article below
